Stolen Commemorative Coins


On 26th February 2010 a warrant was executed at an address in Runcorn, Cheshire. Amongst items seized was an Aluminium box containing approximately 300 commemorative coins.




The aluminium box contains 6 drawers, as well as coins there are bullion bar ranging from 1/10oz to 5 oz in weight. There is also a red eyeglass in a small black case.



The coin collection is of considerable value.



It is suspected that the case and coins are stolen, please contact DC 3627 Victoria Tait (01244 614868) or AFI 6873 Katie Morris (01244 613897) from the Northern Area Financial Investigation Unit, Cheshire Constabulary with any information.

7. Celtic Britain, Corieltauvi, early uninscribed gold stater (Mid to late 1st Century BC), South Ferriby type, rev. disjointed horse with rosette below, obv. very weakly struck with slight pitting, rev. fine or better.



8. Celtic Britain, Corieltauvi, early uninscribed gold stater (Mid to late 1st Cent BC) Domino type, rev. disjointed horse with rectangle containing pellets, obv. very weakly struck, rev. very fine.

10. Forgery of Edward IV gold ryal (weight 7.6 grams)



11. Henry VII (1485-1509) gold angel, mm pansy, rim and some legend damage from grip mounting, otherwise fine or better.



12. George III guinea, 1775, severe traces of mounting and repair showing to rim and both sides, scratches to both sides, otherwise very fine or better.

47. Henry VIII (1509-1547), silver groat, young portrait, mm rose, traces of crimping and slightly distorted, otherwise very fine.



48. Henry VIII (1509-1547), silver groat, posthumous coinage, poor surface and edge chips from 9 to 12 o'clock, otherwise probably better than fair for the issue.



49. Edward VI (1547-1553), shilling, fine silver issue, mm turn, some scratches to both sides, otherwise very fine.



50. Elizabeth I (1558-1603), shilling, milled coinage, large size, decorated dress, better than fair.



51. Elizabeth I (1558-1603), sixpence, 1561, milled coinage, small bust, digs to face on obv. otherwise fine.



52. Charles I (1625-1649), halfcrown, mm lion, York mint, 'EBOR' below horse with head held low on obv. (contemporary forgery), small chip at top, otherwise fine.

56. Scotland, Mary & Henry Darnley silver ryal, 1565, (last digit of date indistinct), thistle counterstamp of Revaluation of 1578 at 36s 9d. almost fair (as this coin weighs 28.2 grams against the correct weight of 30.53 grams, we do not consider this coin to be a forgery).
